"Billy Gibson is a certified genius."
Bill Ellis, The Commercial Appeal

“Enthusiastic, conscientious, and enormously talented, Billy Gibson is a consummate professional and a pleasure to work with. He makes my job easy.”
Rollin Riggs, Resource Entertainment Group Memphis

“… It’s refreshing to hear an artist who is technically accomplished, tasteful, and willing to explore the crossroads where blues and jazz meet. Harp fans will find Gibson to be a formidable player well worth studying.”
Tom Townsley, In A Memphis Tone review, Blues Revue, June/July 2004

“Excellent work from all the players. Do your ears and brain a favor and give a listen to this disc.”
Jim Wright, In A Memphis Tone review, Kansas City Blues News, May 2004

Harmonica virtuoso Billy Gibson has good reason to celebrate... He can be found on the Michael Burks album, I Smell Smoke, nominated this week in the W. C. Handy Blues Awards.

Billy Gibson's been around for a while and is starting to show up more and more in clubs and on other people's albums (i.e. Michael Burks' fine album last summer). While he's on a roll, he thought he'd roll out his interesting and oh-so-different instrumental album of about 7 years ago.

I had heard him on his own records and knew he had a great feel for traditional blues, real command of the harmonica and a big, fat tone. In the studio, his playing fit the tunes perfectly and he was a total professional. Michael Burks got a huge kick out of his playing, and I'd be glad to have Billy play on Alligator sessions in the future. He's a terrific musician.
Bruce Iglauer, co-producer of "I Smell Smoke," who selected Gibson for the session

Soundbite from review on Michael Burks CD
I Smell Smoke - Recorded right here in Memphis, with Memphis musicians (harmonica player Billy Gibson is a standout on a couple of cuts), it may be the best Memphis blues album, best REAL Memphis blues album, I've heard in many a year.

With each note, Gibson draws the listener closer to his emotional messages… Very contagious – a great listening experience. If you ever get a chance to hear Gibson, do it – regardless of where or when. You will never be the same after one of his shows.

Most musicians will claim to be students of their music. Few back it up the way Gibson has. Billy Gibson lives the life of his dreams!
